SUMMARIZED RESULTS OF A CAMPAIGN FOR SEPARATE COLLECTION OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE ORGANIZED BY THE METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY
For the period April-December the teams of the Ecoseif-SOF as a partner of Sofia Municipality collected separately household hazardous waste in total: 18 562 kg. The same were disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
Most of the handed out-of-date medicines (between 80% - 90% of the people who visited the mobile points), followed by painting materials - varnishes, paints, etc., detergents and cleaning products, with a small share of handed over chemical substances and mixtures.
The following types of hazardous waste generated by households can be handed in at the Mobile Points:
✓ Varnishes and paint materials - varnishes, paints, solvents and thinners for paints, inks, turpentine, adhesives;
✓ Household detergents and chemicals - detergents and cleaners containing hazardous substances, bleaches, disinfectants, plant protection and pest control products, acids, bases, reagents, etc.
✓ Contaminated packaging or packaging containing residues of hazardous substances;
✓ Pharmaceuticals - expired medicines;
✓ Fluorescent tubes and thermometers;
They are received by EcoSafe Ltd specialists, separated according to their type and transported under all safety measures to an installation where they are disposed of under strictly controlled environmentally friendly procedures.
